A 56-year-old man has been arrested and charged after causing disturbances at two local churches on Christmas Eve, disrupting services and endangering parishioners, according to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office.

A Maryland man is facing multiple charges after allegedly disrupting two Christmas Eve services in St. Mary's County.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office said Thomas Campbell Bolling Von Goetz, 34, entered churches in Leonardtown and Avenue, Maryland, as well as assaulted a church-goer on Christmas Eve. Deputies said Von Goetz disrupted the evening Mass at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Avenue by dropping an onion in the isle of the altar.

Later in the night at a midnight mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Leonardtown, Maryland, Von Goetz turned up with a bottle of whiskey and allegedly disrupted the service by pouring it into the holy water before threatening to harm the parishioners.
