Gunmen have kidnapped an Austrian woman in Niger's Agadez city. The Austrian Foreign Ministry said its embassy had learned of the abduction of the Austrian national and was in contact with regional authorities on the ground.

An Austrian woman was kidnapped in the desert town of Agadez in central Niger on Saturday, two Nigerien security sources said. One of the sources said the woman was bundled into a 4x4 by unknown assailants in the Fada district of Agadez,

An Austrian woman has been kidnapped in the northern Niger city of Agadez, Vienna said on Sunday. "Unfortunately, we have to confirm the case," the foreign ministry told AFP in an email. Earlier it said its embassy in Algiers – which is responsible for Niger -- "has been informed of the possible kidnapping of an Austrian woman in Agadez".
