An artificially-generated image of a young woman as well as images of two real women have been falsely described in viral posts as the victim of a subway arson attack on Dec. 22 in New York City.

The man arrested on murder and arson charges in the death of a woman who was set on fire inside a subway train has been arraigned, while police said the identity of the victim was still “pending.”
