The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) has announced it will be investigating a Brightline collision with a Delray Beach Fire Rescue engine.

Three firefighters and 12 train passengers were hospitalized after a Brightline train crashed with a fire truck in crowded downtown Delray Beach late Saturday morning.

A Brightline train was stopped on the tracks, its front completely destroyed about a block away from a twisted fire truck that lay on its side.

A Brightline train struck a firetruck in Delray Beach, hospitalizing 3 firefighters, according to local officials.

They are on leave “pending the results of an internal administrative investigation to determine if City and Fire Rescue policies and procedures were followed,” the fire chief said.

The crossing gates were lowered and the fire truck was straddling the tracks when the high-speed train approached, a video of the collision shows.

Four Delray Beach firefighters have been placed on administrative leave following their involvement in a train crash in late December.
