Union County Public Schools says it’s among districts affected by a breach in the state’s student information system, which resulted in unauthorized access to student and teacher data.

PowerSchool, a major education software company, announced a security breach on Tuesday, possibly affecting schools across the nation with data leaks.

The educational software giant said it doesn’t anticipate any of the compromised information “being shared or made public,” as a review of the incident continues.

Dozens of Manitoba school divisions have fallen victim to a data breach that has compromised student information.

School officials learned of the “potential cybersecurity incident” on Tuesday, Needham Public Schools Superintendent Dan Gutekanst said in a statement.

National education software provider PowerSchool learned of the breach in late December, then informed schools it serves this Wednesday.
