A sinkhole on I-80 in Wharton, New Jersey is causing a traffic nightmare after shutting down the highway early Thursday morning.

Interstate 80 reopened through North Jersey on Monday morning, four days after a sinkhole swallowed the road and snarled traffic during the busy holiday weekend. Repair crews worked around the clock to fix the damage in Wharton, where a giant chunk of the right shoulder in the eastbound lanes collapsed on Thursday morning.

A sinkhole on a New Jersey interstate that's closed eastbound traffic for over 24 hours was caused by a collapse of abandoned mineshaft, officials said.
