The Greensboro Police Department says Officer Michael Horan’s body will be escorted by his fellow officers and other agencies along I-40.

A Greensboro police officer has died after a shooting that took place at a Food Lion in Greensboro on Monday, according to the Greensboro Police Department. At 10:45 a.m., Greensboro police say they got a report about a possible person with a handgun inside the Food Lion on the 4700 block

There's a large police presence in the area of Lawndale Drive in Greensboro. Dozens of police officers are on the scene.

Horan is the second Greensboro police officer killed in the past 12 months. Officer Philip Dale Nix was off-duty when he was shot and killed Dec. 30, 2023, at a Sheetz convenience store while attempting to stop a crime in progress. Three people were arrested in Nix's shooting death.
