Fog alert! Delhi Airport issued an advisory on December 26 about ongoing low visibility procedures but confirmed no impact on flight operations

The Delhi Airport on Thursday (December 26) issued an advisory, notifying the passengers that low visibility procedures were in progress. However, it clarified that there had been no impact on flight operations so far.

Early morning rainfall and lightning on Friday, December 27, compounded the cold wave gripping Delhi and its surrounding areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the adverse conditions to an active western disturbance,

An 'orange' warning was issued in Delhi after rain lashed several parts of the national capital and adjoining areas TOday, throwing traffic out of gear in many places. The weather office has forecast more showers during the day.

Train services were also hit as 18 trains ran late on Thursday. Some trains were delayed by over 200 minutes. On Wednesday, 20 trains were delayed due to foggy conditions. The Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC) predicted moderate fog at most places and dense fog at isolated places in the morning.

In a statement on social media, the Delhi airport confirmed that while landings and takeoffs were ongoing, flights not equipped with CAT III navigation systems could face disruptions

According to flight-tracking service Flightradar24, there were 146 delayed flights and three cancellations, with an average delay of nearly 30 minutes for both departures and arrivals in Delhi.

In the advisory, the Delhi airport said that flights that are not compliant with CAT III may be affected. Aircraft with CAT III allow the planes to land in reduced visibility conditions

The dense fog also affected rail travel, with at least 20 trains to Delhi running late. Visibility in the city was recorded at a mere 100 meters at 5:30 am.

Delhi Airport said in its advisory on Wednesday morning that flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected.
